The Ukrainian admitted that the second fight with Joshua was harder than the first
Ukrainian WBA/WBO/IBF/IBO heavyweight champion and holder of The Ring magazine belt Oleksandr Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs) said that the second fight against the British Anthony Joshua (24-3, 22 KOs) turned out to be more difficult than the first one.
In addition, Usyk noted that his victory is very important for the Ukrainian people and the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which are fighting against the army of the Russian Federation.
“Thank God, the Lord helped, the team and hard work. This fight was a little harder than the first one,” Usyk said.
“This is very important for all Ukrainians who are now on the front line defending our country and for all Ukrainians who are helping. This united us even more and gave us strength for further struggle.”
“Did Joshua do anything that surprised me? No. It’s not a lie that Joshua shocked me in the ninth round. Joshua’s reaction after the fight? Anthony was a little nervous, but I’m not mad at him. Everything is fine”.
“Fury? Let the belt give back and rest.”
On August 20, Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk defeated Briton Anthony Joshua in twelve rounds by split decision: 115-113, 116-112 and 113-115. It was the first defense of heavyweight championship belts for a Ukrainian.
Immediately after defeating Joshua, Usyk challenged WBC champion Tyson Fury to a fight. In turn, the “Gypsy King” criticized both boxers after the fight.
Recall that the first fight between Usyk and Joshua took place in the fall of 2021. Then the Ukrainian defeated the Briton by unanimous decision and became the WBA/WBO/IBF/IBO heavyweight champion for the first time.
