The UFC and Dana White weren’t too happy with José Aldo’s performance in the fight against Merab Dvalishvili; check out what the great name of Ultimate said about the fight!
Jose Aldo received a clear message from Dana White after the defeat in UFC 278. The Brazilian was easy prey for Merab Dvalishvili, which didn’t give the former champion a chance to get back up in the fight. The fighter’s posture did not please the main name of Ultimate, who went so far as to say that he found the fighter’s less offensive style strange during the early hours of last Saturday, 20th, to Sunday, 21st.
According to Dana White, José Aldo is an athlete dear to him, but he said he didn’t like what he saw in the fight against Merab Dvalishvili. According to the great commander of Ultimate, the Brazilian did not show his best version during the fight: “First of all, I love José Aldo, I always make that very clear to everyone, but he wasn’t offensive at all at the event“.

In addition to criticizing José Aldo, Dana White also made a big question for Dvalishvili, who won a big victory against the former UFC champion. It is worth noting that the Ultimate manager wanted a more aggressive stance from the Georgian, especially after the fight. The American expected the fighter to ask for a title fight.
“Merab didn’t act like a guy who wants to go after the title. When asked about having a friend with the belt and what he would do, he didn’t respond. (…) We give you the opportunity to shine and it’s your job to fulfill expectations, and that’s not what happened“, he said. It is worth noting that Dvalishvili revealed that José Aldo may be retiring from the UFC.
“He told me (that he was going to retire), actually. When he was on the ground and I went to shake his hand, thank him for the fight and show my respect to him, he was on the ground and I tried to lift him up, and he told me: ‘This is my last fight, because that was my last title race.’ And then he said, ‘I think it’s over,'” said Merab Dvalishvili in an interview with “MMA Hour”. The conversation would have taken place when the two embraced.
