Spartakiad judoka champion Khalmurzaev: ‘Although my brother was a twin, he was always heavier’

Judoka Khasan Khalmurzaev noted the importance of holding the All-Russian Spartakiad in summer sports among the strongest athletes in 2022, and also said that twin brother Hussein Khalmurzaev has always played in a different weight class.

On Thursday, Khasan Khalmurzaev won the category up to 81 kilograms in Spartakiad. Hussein Khalmurzaev won gold in the category up to 90 kg.

What does this gold represent for you?

– Another victory, new emotions, joy. The nuance is that we haven’t played for a long time, especially in the big tournaments, we are thirsty for competition. Just bored. Thank you for having imagined the Spartakiade, for us it is the equivalent of the European Championship and it allows us to keep the tone.

– Did the opponent in the final, Alan Khubetsov, cause any problems?

– We have known each other for a long time, we have fought more than once, there are no easy fights with him.

– Was a new victorious reception prepared for him, or did Alan miss the familiar reception?

“I just seized the moment. There was extra time, both were tired, the chuyka lit up. In the end, it turned out to catch him in the rear end.

– My brother fought in the category up to 90 kg. You have 81. Specially scattered on the scale?

– Although he was a twin, he was always heavier. Well, the coaches advised. So you can earn two medals instead of one.

– Was it difficult for you to live without competition?

– Very well. But there was also time to think about something. For example, skipping the Tokyo Games.

– Have you thought about that?

– Yes. He prepared especially for the Spartakiad and won. There are new goals ahead of me, I really want to go to the World Cup in Uzbekistan.
