2000 Olympic boxing champion Alexander Lebzyak declared that he puts the victory in the national championship and the triumph in the Spartakiad of the strongest on an equal footing.
The boxing tournament within the framework of the All-Russian Spartakiad of summer sports among the strongest athletes of 2022 began on Sunday and will last until Saturday. Competitions are held in Olympic weight classes, eight boxers compete in each division.
– The Spartakiad of the Peoples of the USSR was last held in 1991 in Minsk, then in modern Russia. We have participated in national, European and world championships. Now our team has few trips, everyone is focused on national competitions. There was a Spartakiad where the guys and girls show good boxing. Also, there are not enough tournaments and fights.
Winning the first Spartakiad looks proud. I remember how I became Spartakiad champion in 1991, it was held in Minsk. The winner of the Spartakiad is a very serious title, as is the champion of Russia. I put the title of champion of Russia and winner of Spartakiad on a level,” Lebzyak told reporters.
Lebzyak, after success in amateur boxing, had a fight in the professional ring in 2001, after which he switched to training.
