Russian boxer Yulia Chumgalakova, the 2019 European champion, said she considers winning the Spartakiad one of the main achievements of her career.
Chumgalakova won the Spartakiad gold medal in the weight up to 50 kg.
– Victory in Spartakiad is comparable to first place in the Russian Championship. They are also very important, responsible competitions, for which I have been preparing for a long time. The tournament in Buryatia recently ended with good competition, so we were able to get in shape there before the Spartakiad.
The medal will occupy one of the main places in my piggy bank of awards, because it changed the weight class. My weight is usually up to 48 kg, but here I compete (in weight) up to 50 kg, so something new is happening for me. I remember participating in the Spartakiad when I was a junior, then the tournament was considered more important than the Russian championship. Now the Spartakiad is among the strongest, and it’s great to be among such athletes,” Chumgalakova told reporters.
