Mayur Bansode, president of Indian MMA, said he was counting on the help of sambiists from Russia to promote and spread sambo in the country.
— We need the support of Russian sambists when it comes to teaching athletes the rules of sambo. There is no doubt that Indian athletes can wrestle, but they have to learn the rules. We need help to get the best Russian athletes to come to India and help us organize SAMBO training centers and train our athletes. Russia is the birthplace of this sport, so we need their knowledge and experience,” Bansoda said as quoted by Daijiworld.
According to Bansode, each Indian state has its own style of wrestling and it will be quite easy to adapt Sambo to India as it is comparable to wrestling.
