Former undisputed boxing world champion Konstantin Tszyu believes that the worldwide popularity of Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk played an important role in his victory as the best boxer of the month according to the World Boxing Association (WBA).
The WBA named Usyk Boxer of the Month after he won a rematch with Britain’s Anthony Joshua on August 20 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Usyk won by split decision. After the fight, Usyk announced his desire to fight for the title of absolute champion with the holder of the WBC belt Tyson Fury.
Well, the winners are not judged. At the moment, absolutely no one can pull him off the front line. Even better. The same Bivol will not be able to lead the ranking, because popularity plays one of the key roles in this ranking. Usyk is currently the most recognizable boxer.
The rating is compiled not only by the factors of combat skills and titles. There must be worldwide fame and the whole world must confirm that this fighter is really the best. Absolutely all of this has been confirmed. And whatever I say about the referee’s decision in the rematch, there’s the word ‘win,’ Tszyu told RBC Sport.
Usyk won the WBA, WBO and IBF championship belts that belonged to Briton Joshua a year ago when he beat him by unanimous decision.
