World champion intends to support the Ukrainian military on the front line
WBA/WBO/IBF/IBO World Heavyweight Champion Oleksandr Usyk said he would stay Ukraine. He intends to visit the soldiers on the front lines and continue to help the country.
“I set everything up at home so that everything works. In the defense, I think they won’t accept me anymore. I go to the shooting range, I train. Meet the guys, help the guys. I think … I don’t think, I know that I will go to support the guys where it’s hot, ”said Usyk.
“And yes, I am staying in Ukraine. First, I don’t want to go anywhere. Secondly, I have already visited many places – both in Europe and America – I want to go home. Especially when there are difficulties at home, in Ukraine, you want to be here, and if there is such an opportunity and strength, then help the country, people.”
“Specifically, I have no problems to leave. I do not need any permissions, because I have three minor children, and I can leave, be with them. But I think they will be back here soon.”
At the end of August, Usyk returned to Ukraine after the second fight with Anthony Joshua. Alexander defeated the former world champion by split decision and retained the WBA / WBO / IBF / IBO titles.
After defeating Joshua Usyk, he challenged WBC title holder Tyson Fury to a fight. However, Alexander does not plan to hold a unification fight with the Briton this year.
The head of Top Rank, Bob Arum, said that the fight between Fury and Usyk could take place on February 11 or 18 in the Middle East.
