“Concerns over IBA funding did not arise now, but long before the situation in Ukraine” – CIO

International Olympic Committee (IOC) sporting director Keith McConnell said the organization was concerned about the International Boxing Association’s (IBA) funding model.

The head of the IBA is Umar Kremlev. He was re-elected president of the association in May this year. Kremlev has held a leading position since 2020. Recently, IBA was funded by only one company.

– I don’t think it’s in Russia, these topics are unrelated. With regard to the IBA, it is concerning that recently only one company has been the source of funding, this issue has been on our minds for a long time. The IBA has no other suitable funding model, it has been pointed out. Communication with this company is ongoing. The management of the IBA from the headquarters in Lausanne was transferred to the office of the president (Kremlev) and it turned out that he was in Moscow. Concern about the organization’s funding did not arise now, but long before the situation in Ukraine. The situation within the IBA is very worrying,” McConnell told a news conference.
