The fight between the Dutchman and the Russian will take place on Friday, October 21 at Axiata Arena in Malaysia’s capital, Kuala Lumpur.
Reine De Ridder holds two ONE belts – light heavyweight and middleweight. He has a professional record of 16-0. A black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Judo, he began his MMA career in June 2013. In his last fight at ONE Championship 159, the Dutch knight defeated Russian Vitaliy Bigdash in the first round via a triangle choke to retain the title of the intermediate division.
The Dutchman’s goal is the third consecutive title defense but this plan will be difficult to implement. In the person of Abdulaïev, the current champion will meet a serious and dangerous adversary.
A native of Dagestan is a newcomer to Asia’s biggest MMA promotion. The fight against De Ridder will be Abdulaev’s debut since signing with ONE in February this year. In his last fight, which came after more than two years of inactivity, he defeated Sheriff Mohamed by technical knockout in the first round of the IPFC 5 Adrenaline tournament.
Abdulaev plays for the Universal Fighters club. His record includes two wins at the MMA World Championship, the same number at the European Championship and three wins at the Russian Championship.
Abdulaev’s professional record is 13-1, with 54% of his wins by knockout, and his only loss was a split decision. Dagestan intend to give De Ridder a taste of defeat. He wants to increase his career knockouts and win the ONE world title.
