Alvarez and Golovkin will fight on September 17
Former world champion in four divisions Mikey Garcia commented on the upcoming third fight between the Kazakh boxer Gennady Golovkin (42-1-1, 37 KOs) and undisputed world super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (57-2-2, 39 KOs).
“Think, [будет] good fight. But I bet on Canelo. They know each other well, as they have already crossed paths twice in the ring.”
“Canelo has the advantage as he approaches the fight at the perfect moment in his career. But Golovkin will also try to win. He will definitely do everything in his power.”
Alvarez and Golovkin will fight on September 17 for the title of undisputed world champion in the second middle weight category. The fight will take place in Las Vegas at the T-Mobile Arena.
After the fight, Golovkin will have 5 days to decide which category to stay in. If Gennady decides to defend the middleweight title, he will face Cuban Erislandy Lara.
The first fight between Canelo and Golovkin in September 2017 ended in a draw. A year later, the Mexican won by split decision.
In May, Alvarez suffered the second defeat of his career, losing to Russian Dmitry Bivol in a fight for the world light heavyweight title.
Golovkin fought his last fight in April, defeating Japan’s Reta Murata via TKO to unify two middleweight titles.
