Haney on The Ring rating: Lomachenko is on this list only because of politics

There are two representatives of Ukraine in the rating at once

Undisputed World Lightweight Champion Devin Haney spoke about the magazine’s pound-for-pound rating The Ring. In his opinion, the Ukrainian ex-world champion Vasily Lomachenko was undeservedly on the list.

“This is not just about Lomachenko. I don’t want it to look like it’s all about him. But it played an important role. A fighter who isn’t even number one in his weight class is on their pound-for-pound list. It all doesn’t add up.”

“But at the end of the day, it’s all politics. The pound-for-pound rating is just an opinion. It’s made up, it’s not real. How can you judge who is on the list and who is not on the list? It’s about what people prefer. It’s just an opinion, so we have what we have.

Vasily Lomachenko is ranked sixth in The Ring’s ranking of the best boxers outside the weight category. Lomachenko’s compatriot, world heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, is number one on the list.

Earlier, promoter Bob Arum announced his desire to organize a fight between Vasily and undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney. The American will have a rematch with former champion George Kambosos Jr. on the night of October 16 at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia.

Lomachenko had his last fight in December last year, defeating Richard Commey by unanimous decision. Subsequently, Vasily could fight Kambosos, but refused it against the backdrop of a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.

On October 29, at the Hulu Theater in Madison Square Garden in New York, Ukrainian boxer Vasily Lomachenko will return to the ring. Lomachenko will face Jamaine Ortiz.
