The difference was only 200 grams
The weighing ceremony of the Kazakhstani boxer took place Gennady Golovkin (42-1-1, 37 KOs) and undisputed world super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (57-2-2, 39 KOs).
According to the results of the weigh-in, both boxers met the regulations. Canelo weighed in at 75.9 kg, Golovkin was slightly heavier at 76.1 kg.
Alvarez and Golovkin will fight on September 17 for the title of undisputed world champion in the second middle weight category. The fight will take place in Las Vegas at the T-Mobile Arena.
After the fight, Golovkin will have 5 days to decide which category to stay in. If Gennady decides to defend the middleweight title, he will face Cuban Erislandy Lara. The boxer himself said that he wanted to fight at home.
The first fight between Canelo and Golovkin in September 2017 ended in a draw. A year later, the Mexican won by split decision.
In May, Alvarez suffered the second defeat of his career, losing to Russian Dmitry Bivol in a fight for the world light heavyweight title.
Golovkin fought his last fight in April, defeating Japan’s Reta Murata via TKO to unify two middleweight titles.
