Russian samba players won 13 top-level medals on the first day of the European Youth Championship, which is taking place in the Serbian city of Novi Sad.
The winners in their weight categories were: Valeria Shubchik (up to 47 kg), Alena Alyokhina (up to 50 kg), Anastasia Trofimova (up to 54 kg), Maria Vorochilova (up to 59 kg), Daria Baranenkova (up to 65 kg), Diana Gamidova (up to 72 kg), Sofia Stoycheva (up to 80 kg), Olesya Tkachenko (over 80 kg), Ramazan Koblev (up to 53 kg), Rasul Nash (up to 64 kg), Vladimir Loginov (up to 71 kg), Timur Gorodov (up to 79 kg), Andrey Olefir (up to 98 kg).
Yuri Maleryan (over 98 kg) won silver, and Akhmad Yakhyaev (up to 58 kg) and Ivan Emelianenko (up to 88 kg) became bronze medalists.
The Russians participate in the tournament under the flag of the International SAMBO Federation.
