Albanian freestyle wrestler Zelimkhan Abakarov won gold in the weight category up to 57 kg at the World Championships in Belgrade.
Abakarov beat American Thomas Gilman in the final game. The bronze medalists were Stefan Mičić (Serbia) and Zanabazar Zandanbud (Mongolia).
Abakarov previously performed under the Russian flag and became the winner of the Russian championship, the winner of the World Cup. Change of sports citizenship in September 2021.
Russian athletes are not allowed to participate in the world championships in Belgrade due to the situation in Ukraine.
