The Ukrainian boxer told how he managed to win the fight after a missed punch.
Oleksandr Usyk talks about his fight with Anthony Joshua. The holder of the WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight titles remembered the blow of the British boxer, after which he fell.
According to the Ukrainian boxer, he made a plan in case he finds himself in a similar situation.
“Like the first and the second fight, we have a plan to take a round, perform 2-3 successful combinations in the round and make sure to get the finish – knock-knock-knock in 10 seconds. If, God forbid, a knockdown – no hurry. You get knocked down, you get counted out, you recover and you’re through to the next round.”
We talked about it. This is boxing. Usually a boxer, when he misses the punches, starts to live, to show his character. At this moment, he is done, because he can’t see, can’t feel the distance like when he doesn’t have dizziness. Okay, you’ll lose the round, but you’ll bounce back. Kneel down, you’re outnumbered – it’s a strategy. There is no cowardice here. This is the strategy of boxing, fight, fight, when you can take the actions in time that will lead you to victory,” Usyk said in an interview on the USYK17 YouTube channel.
It can be remembered that Usyk defeated Joshua in a rematch by split decision (113-115, 115-113, 116-112).
We will remind, the previous promoter Joshua spoke about his desire to work with Usyk in the future.
