Three-time Russian champion, 2020 Olympics participant, 2019 European Games silver medalist Gabil Mammadov said that the leaders of the national team may stumble at the Russian boxing championship in Chita.
The Russian Men’s Boxing Championship will be held in Chita from September 30 to October 8. The tournament prize will be 26 million rubles. Winners will receive 1.5 million rubles each, silver medalists – 250,000 rubles each, bronze medalists – 125,000 rubles each. In total, more than 300 athletes from 60 regions of the country will take part in the Russian Championship. The competitions will take place in 13 weight categories. Tokyo Olympic medalists Muslim Gadzhimagomedov, Imam Khataev and Andrey Zamkovoy, as well as 2021 World Cup medalists Savely Sadoma, Dzhambulat Bizhamov, Akhtem Zakirov will perform in Chita.
– There may be many favorites in the main tournament of the country, but I will not name names. It all depends on the physical shape in which they approach the competition. Team leaders, including me, can stumble. Everyone trains differently and each Russian championship opens up new stars. New leaders could emerge this year. World and European champions, participants and winners of the Olympic Games will come to Chita. They are quite experienced boxers and it is very difficult to compete with them. Their serious practice greatly affects the outcome of the battle. They know how to react quickly and rebuild during the battle, select the right strategy and change it. Such skills are not given to all athletes. It comes only with experience, but there are exceptions, – said Mammadov, whose words “” were provided by the press service of the Russian Boxing Federation.
Mammadov made his professional debut in January 2022, defeating Vyacheslav Gusev in a 10-round unanimous decision bout.
– At the moment I am more of an amateur boxer than a professional, because I only had one professional fight. And I really liked the format of semi-professional boxing, like at the Victory Cup. It was very interesting, atmospheric and cool. I have a good fan base, but certainly not more than the other guys on the team. Some people have a bigger fan base than me. And I do not consider myself the most publicized boxer in the Russian championship in Chita. The participation will be boxers who came back with medals from the Tokyo Olympics, and they are very popular. Some are certainly better known than me,” Mammadov said.
Live broadcasts of the Russian Championship will take place on the channel.
