According to Klitschko, Ukrainian athletes are now defending the honor of the country
Former World Heavyweight Champion Vladimir Klichko spoke out in support of the youth boxing team of Ukraine.
“The honor of our state today is defended by our athletes. The Russian members of the IBA leadership and Vladimir Prodivus wanted to force them to come out with the IBA flag as a neutral team at the European Championships. They were not afraid of ultimatums and came out with the Ukrainian flag!” Klitschko wrote on Twitter.
Recall that the International Boxing Federation (IBA) has suspended the activities of the Boxing Federation of Ukraine. The association considered that the state bodies of Ukraine are interfering in the work of a sports organization.
Due to the conflict between the FBU and the IBA, the Ukrainian junior team was forced to compete at the European Boxing Championship, which began today in Italy, under a neutral flag. However, Ukrainian athletes held a protest against this decision and refused to compete at the European Championships.
President of the Boxing Federation of Ukraine Kirill Shevchenko said that the decision of the IBA is directly related to Volodymyr Prodivus, who holds the post of vice president in the organization. Prodivus himself, commenting on the scandal with the Ukrainian team, promised to resolve the situation as soon as possible.
