Brasilia chosen as host for 2026 Copa do Brasil final

Brasília will host the 2026 Copa do Brasil final at the Mané Garrincha Stadium in the tournament's first single-match championship decider.

The Brazilian Football Confederation is preparing an official announcement for Thursday, September 10, when officials will draw the home ground order for the competition's semi-finals.

The choice of the federal capital for the title match was first reported by sports website ge and subsequently confirmed by radio station Itatiaia. The historic fixture is scheduled to take place on December 6, 2026.

Four major Brazilian clubs remain in contention for the national knockout trophy. Atlético Mineiro, Grêmio, Vasco da Gama, and Palmeiras have all advanced to the semi-final stage of the competition.

Draw scheduled for semi-final hosts

The CBF has set the draw to determine field command for the two-legged semi-finals for 11:00 am Brasília time on Thursday. Representatives from the four remaining teams will gather to learn which clubs will host the opening and closing legs of their respective ties.

The Copa do Brasil is the country's premier national cup competition, bringing together teams from across all Brazilian states in a knockout format. Historically, the tournament final has been contested across two legs, with teams playing home and away fixtures to determine the champion. The move to a single neutral venue final in 2026 represents a major structural shift for Brazilian club football.

Mané Garrincha Stadium track record

Selecting Brasília marks a new chapter in the trend toward single-game finals in Brazilian football. The Estádio Nacional Mané Garrincha, located in the federal capital, is one of the nation's premier sports arenas and regularly hosts high-profile matches.

The arena has extensive experience hosting major national showpieces. It previously served as the host venue for four editions of the Supercopa do Brasil, welcoming the annual match between national champions in 2020, 2021, 2023, and 2026.

The four clubs pursuing the trophy represent some of the most successful football institutions in South America. Palmeiras and Vasco da Gama both hail from major metropolitan hubs in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, while Atlético Mineiro of Belo Horizonte and Grêmio of Porto Alegre represent key regional strongholds.

Following Thursday's morning draw to establish the semi-final match order, the four remaining clubs will compete for the two places in December's historic single-match final in Brasília.
