Cuba shut out Puerto Rico 4-0 on Saturday in the baseball tournament at the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games 2026. The Cuban team combined strong pitching and offensive power to secure its second win of the competition.

Starting pitcher Raidel Figueredo Cruz earned the win after throwing four scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out four batters. Puerto Rico starter Luis Cruz Torres took the loss, giving up two runs on five hits over three and two-thirds innings.

Game progression

Cuba opened the scoring in the second inning when Yasiel González hit a solo home run over left field. Andrys Pérez added an RBI single off right-hander Cruz Torres in the fourth inning to make it 2-0.

Yoel Yanqui extended the lead in the seventh inning, driving in two runs with a double on the first pitch from left-handed reliever Luis Cintrón.

Player statistics and group standings

Cuban pitching held Puerto Rico to three hits while striking out seven. For Cuba, González went 1-for-3 with a home run, a run scored, and an RBI, Yanqui went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, Pérez went 1-for-3 with an RBI, Luis Mateo Terry went 2-for-4 with a run scored, and Yoelki Guibert went 1-for-4 with a run scored.

For Puerto Rico, Edwin Mora went 1-for-3, Kervin Luciano went 1-for-3, and Kris Camacho went 1-for-1.

Cuba remains undefeated at the top of Group A after opening with a 4-1 win over Curaçao before defeating Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico dropped to a 1-1 record, following an opening win against the Dominican Republic.
