Donald Trump has revealed his dream golf foursome, pairing legends Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods with a surprising fourth choice: his late father, Fred Trump.
The announcement came during an interview on the Fox News program Sunday Night in America with Trey Gowdy, where the host asked Trump who he would choose to play a round of golf with if given total freedom of choice.
Trump, an avid golfer who owns multiple courses around the world, has frequently claimed to have won numerous club championships across his properties.
Responding to Gowdy, Trump immediately selected two of the most celebrated figures in the history of the sport. "I love Jack, okay, Jack is great," Trump said, referring to 18-time major champion Jack Nicklaus. He then added 15-time major winner Tiger Woods to the group, saying, "I happen to love Tiger, Tiger is a great guy."
Nicklaus holds the all-time record for major championship victories, while Woods ranks second. Together, the two golf icons have won a combined 33 major titles. Trump has played rounds with both men in the past and awarded Woods the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the United States, during a White House ceremony in 2019.
Family connection on the course
After selecting the two professional legends, Trump completed his ideal pairing with a deeply personal choice: his father, Fred Trump.
Trump revealed that despite his father's impressive swing, the elder Trump rarely played the sport. "It's funny, I played one round of golf with my father and he never played golf before," Trump said. "And I remember how good his swing was. I think my father had a lot of... I'd love to have my father back. I'd love to have my father back."
Fred Trump Sr. built a real estate empire constructing residential housing across New York City, primarily in Brooklyn and Queens, before his son expanded the family business into commercial towers and golf resorts. The television interview was conducted by Gowdy, a former U.S. Representative from South Carolina who now hosts the weekly Fox News show.
Star-studded rounds and tournament venues
During the broadcast, Trump noted that he has played golf with several other top professional players over the years, including Bryson DeChambeau, Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson and Scottie Scheffler. DeChambeau, Mickelson, Johnson and Scheffler are all major championship winners who have featured prominently in professional tournaments worldwide.
Trump also highlighted how his international golf properties have hosted high-profile professional events in recent years for both the PGA Tour and LIV Golf. His courses in Bedminster, New Jersey, Washington, D.C., and Doral outside of Miami, Florida, have served as venues for major tournaments, drawing elite fields from both rival professional circuits.
