Liverpool defender Matip tore his ankles and may not play for the rest of the season

Defender “Liverpool » Joel Matip suffered a ruptured cruciate ligament in his knee during the 14th round of the Premier League match against Fulham, Reds head coach Jurgen Klopp said.

The meeting took place on Sunday at Anfield and ended in favor of the home team with a score of 4:3. Matip, 32, was substituted in the 69th minute due to injury.

— We are talking about a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament. Unfortunately, this is what I expected from the first second. Everything looked like this. It’s a shame,” Klopp told Klopp’s website.

Thus, Matip will have to undergo surgery. Most likely, the Cameroonian will be out for the rest of the season.

The defender’s contract with Liverpool expires next summer. He has made 201 appearances for the team since arriving from Schalke in 2016.
