The President of Prometheus emphasized that he expects his basketball team to be treated “at least like other clubs.”
The president SK Prometheus Vladimir Dubinsky pro spoke about the future of the club’s basketball and volleyball teams.
“There will be basketball. Literally now, three more players from Prometheus basketball team are signing with Pashchenko from those who played in other clubs. The core of the team remained the same, three left, three were signed. The team has already started training, the first interim training camp is already underway, and a full training camp will be held on August 1.”
“I will continue to finance the project, I am sure that the team is young, ambitious, and we will fight for first place in the Super League. But if for some reason they don’t let us in there, and they again say about four million hryvnia, I will close this project. That is, this project will live if we are treated at least like other clubs.”
“Again, after two years of throwing around some incomprehensible things, I said, in particular, to the federation: guys, I told you a year ago – if not, I’ll go to football. It was a joke at the time, but it turned out to be reality. We didn’t plan, we didn’t think, but we ended up connected with football.”
“But in basketball there is a team, we believe it will be there. I don’t want to quit basketball. This is very difficult, there are many financial and other problems, several partners refused to finance the project last year. But there are a few remaining, and they understand that this is not normal – basketball, volleyball, and football. But basketball will definitely live on.”
“The situation in volleyball is more complicated – we have no understanding of why we are doing this, there is little support from the federation. But many clubs support and worry about this. We changed our attitude somewhat, removed all legionnaires from Prometheus, and reduced a certain part of expenses. For now, I plan that volleyball will live on, but at the end of June there will be a large meeting of all club presidents, we will express our concerns and experiences, misunderstandings on the part of certain respected people. We have doubts about how volleyball will develop.”
“That is, basketball remains 100%, volleyball remains 99%. I hope we can get through this. Because there are a number of partners who would like to bury these positions – war makes the most serious adjustments.”
Let us remind you that basketball Prometheus refused to participate in the Super League in the 2022/23 season due to disagreements with the FBU. Dubinsky then stated that the Federation required payment of a discriminatory application fee, ten times higher than the standard one. The FBU motivated this amount by Prometheus’s participation in the European Cup tournament “not under the auspices of FIBA.”
A year later, in 2023, the FBU refused to allow Prometheus into the Super League, guided, according to the federation president Mikhail Brodsky, “solely by the rules of the regulations.” As a result, the club from Kamensky, like the year before, played with the main squad in the Latvian-Estonian Basketball League and became its champion for the second time in a row. At the same time, the team led by Ronen Ginzburg played in the Eurocup.
At the same time, Prometheus entered the Ukrainian Major League with a backup squad (exclusively of Ukrainian players) and easily won it, achieving entry into the FAVBET Super League on a sporting basis.
At the end of the season, the club’s management decided to focus on the Ukrainian Super League. As it was announced, the core of the team will be Ukrainian players who played in the Major League. At the same time, Prometheus will not play in European tournaments next season, and the players who were based in Riga are now open to offers from other teams.
The men’s and women’s volleyball teams of Prometheus also became champions of Ukraine last season, and the volleyball players under the leadership of Ivan Petkov set a unique achievement for Ukraine, without losing a single set during the season in the domestic arena.
In addition to all this, at the beginning of 2024, the Demart company of Prometheus President Vladimir Dubinsky became the title sponsor of football Bukovina.
