The Georgians heroically played the half, but after the break they were dismantled and eventually defeated
Spainhaving missed the first, defeated Georgia in the 1/8 final match 2024 European Championship.
The Red Fury dominated from the very beginning, but suddenly conceded in the 18th minute. The Georgians didn’t even need to shoot at goal for this – Otar Kakabadze’s cross, ahead of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, was turned into his own goal by Robin Le Norman.
For some time, Willy Sagnol’s team held back the monstrous pressure, but the favorite still managed to seal Georgi Mamardashvili’s goal before the break. Rodri did it, shooting from the penalty line into the bottom corner.
Soon after the break, Spain took the lead – Fabian Ruiz headed in Lamin Yamal’s cross from close range. The 16-year-old Barcelona talent himself could score more than once, but this was not his evening in terms of implementation. But Niko Williams wrote down his name in the protocol, running towards the Georgian goal from a pass from the same Ruiz.
The crushing score was soon established by Dani Olmo, who skillfully hit the bottom corner without giving Mamardashvili a chance.
In the quarter-finals we will see a super duel between Germany and Spain. The match will take place on July 5 in Stuttgart.
