Zvyagel risks missing the 2024/25 First League season

The club is having problems with the stadium

The president Zvyagelya Dmitry Kostyuk reported that the club is close to skipping the 2024/25 First League season. According to him, the reason for the withdrawal from the championship is problems with the home stadium “Avangard”, which did not pass the UAF certification.

“We fought to the end and still have hope that we will be able to play in the First League this season, but our chances are illusory, and I see no point in hiding this from our players, coaches, staff, fans. Today we held a team meeting, I told everyone about the affairs in the club, paid everyone in advance, since we never had debts, shook hands and allowed the players to look for new teams.”

“If we delay the decision and start the season without understanding that we will be able to play it to the end, we can put a spanner in the works for both our players and our rivals in the league.”

“It so happened that PFC Zvyagel – the club representing the city of the same name – can no longer play in this city. The issue of accreditation of the local stadium could not be resolved and there is no time to wait for this issue to be resolved.”

“Firstly, football exists for the fans, and without them it makes no sense. Secondly, the impossibility of playing at home creates serious financial challenges. When every team match is away, significantly more money is required, this is a question of renting housing for the team, renting a stadium, training fields, food, etc.”

“And on the other hand, if a team representing one region lives in another, it is extremely difficult to find sponsors for such a team. It is also difficult to sign players when we cannot answer the question of where we will live tomorrow, everyone has their own families and a desire to be closer to them.”

Zvyagel finished the last season in third place in the Second League, after which they beat Khust in the play-off matches (1:1, 1:0). This allowed Yuri Virt’s team to win promotion to the First League.

The list of participants in the First League of the 2024/25 season, before Zvyagel’s official withdrawal, includes 18 teams. As in the previous season, they will be divided into two equal subgroups. The season starts on August 3.
