In the break between the Monza and Singapore stages, Williams decided not to renew Nicholas Latifi’s contract for 2023. At the Marina Bay circuit on Thursday, the Canadian rider said he was disappointed with the team’s decision, but understands it.
Nicholas Latifi: “I understand the decision. In the end, everything in our sport is linked to the result and this year I didn’t succeed for several reasons. I talked about some of the difficulties I encountered at the beginning of the year, about things that were beyond my control – as a result of all this I did not achieve the necessary results.
I want to race in Formula 1 because this is the pinnacle of motorsport, I’ve devoted most of my life to it. If there’s even the slightest chance of staying, I won’t refuse, but now it’s important to focus on the last six races. I mean, a good result in the six remaining races is the best way to stay in Formula 1.
I’m evaluating all options, but like I said, I understand and accept the team’s decision. Now I have to close this chapter in my career with Williams with good results and focus on the next task.
