Norris: It’s very hard to get a good lap in Singapore

The Singapore circuit may not be loved by everyone for its specificity, but Lando Norris considers it one of the best on the calendar, despite only competing here once, in 2019. Then the debutant McLaren dropped the 9th result. in qualifying and took 7th place in the race.

Lando Norris: “I flew to Singapore a few days ago, but not to acclimatize, just to see a bit of the city, visit a few restaurants and stuff. I’m already looking forward to the upcoming Grand Prix as the Singapore circuit is one of the best on the championship calendar in my opinion. At the same time one of those where it is most difficult to ride a good circle.

But when you succeed, especially in qualifying, you feel real satisfaction. If all goes well, you will experience emotions similar to those in Monaco when you cross the finish line. Overall I like it here and I remember doing a good job in Singapore in 2019, in my debut season. That’s why I’m happy to come back here.

Although it is of course different from Monaco. There are more slow corners and fewer medium corners, and in Monaco I think you can take more risks in some parts of the circle, but at the same time it is more difficult in my opinion to assess the situation and make the right decisions. And in Singapore, a more measured rhythm and fair accelerations alternate with decelerations, so here’s the difficulties of a different kind.

But the walls are just as close here, and if the car gets too close to the barriers – it doesn’t matter, from the outside of the track or from the inside – you can easily make a mistake. And yet driving gives me pleasure.
