Information came out in Singapore on Friday that two Formula 1 teams, Red Bull Racing and Aston Martin, allegedly violated financial rules by exceeding the maximum budget for 2021. Team leader Mercedes Toto Wolff believes the FIA should take strict action if a violation is proven.
“The budget constraints were the main changes to the regulations, aimed at ensuring a level playing field for all teams,” Toto Wolff said in Singapore on Friday. – Regulations allow teams that do not have serious financial capabilities to spend as much as the leading teams. That is why it is very important to demonstrate compliance with the rules.
I have no reason to believe it could be otherwise. The FIA and President Mohammed bin Sulayem must show a tough stance in complying with all the rules. I think when it comes to something serious, the president will show the same integrity and leadership as before.
At this point, I have no information on whether anyone is violating the budget restrictions, and if so, by how much. Of course, if you break in a year, that means you’ll probably break in year two and possibly year three.
Somehow something concrete will come out, then the discussions will start about what effect this violation has led, but at this stage it’s too early to say anything about that.”
