Alex Albon: I’m doing better than expected

The Williams team admit that the Singapore track, which requires a lot of downforce, is not the best choice for their car, but it is important that Alex Albon is doing well after surgery three weeks ago and the complications that come with it. He was able to get back into shape in a very short time and says he is doing better than expected.

Alex Albon (16th): “Health is normal – maybe you can say that. Sure, when you’re working on the track, you feel it’s very hot, but that’s normal too. We knew it was going to be difficult, but I feel like I’m doing better than expected.

We put in a lot of laps at race pace, although this is only part of what we need to overcome on Sunday. In general, the driving experience is not bad, and the difficulties are mainly due to the heat – this is especially felt when you step out of the cockpit. However, all this is just physical activity.

Obviously we have issues with the car, but in my opinion we haven’t fully revealed its potential, although we knew in preparation for this weekend that we would be noticeably behind here than in Monza. On this track you need more downforce and the circle consists of 23 turns, so there is simply nowhere to regain the loss of time.

Today we will analyze everything and if we manage to make it to the second session in qualifying, then this will already be a success.”

Nicholas Latific (20th): “Of course we have a hard time on this track, because it has a lot of corners and no straights, despite the fact that the surface is very bumpy here. Until today I had no experience driving this track and I think we will have a hard time on Sunday, mainly because of the heat.

In general the day was not good, it all started with the fact that during the first practice we were interrupted by telemetry interference, which caused us to lose some time. Then in the second session there were problems with the seat belts, so I had to go back to the pits.

We tried to adjust the settings, but it didn’t work and I also know that I should try to fly better.”
