Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo set an eleventh and eighteenth time in the second practice session of the Singapore Grand Prix. Both McLaren drivers noted the lack of speed and added that they had to add seriously to be able to count on a top ten finish.
Lando Norris (11th): “Tough day due to the high temperature and other characteristics of Singapore. Nevertheless, we did a good job and came up with the new products that we put on the car. The updates worked as expected – to some extent the feel of the car was the same as before the installation of new products, but there were minor changes in the areas we needed.
Our pace is not very fast yet – we need to improve seriously if we want to make it to the final of qualifying tomorrow. We need to add more than usual, but we’ll try, we’ll work all night – we’ll see if we can get more speed.
Daniel Riccardo (18th): “It’s nice to be back in Singapore. Of course it’s hot here, but today wasn’t that hard, so I think the first day went well. We haven’t raced this track for several years so we have to work in the evenings.
Obviously we don’t have enough speed and in the second session the problems got worse, so we have to work. We will do our best, but the training proved difficult. Let’s see what we can do tomorrow, but we will definitely change the settings to get better handling and more speed out of the car.
Andrea Stella, Race Director: “Singapore is challenging for several reasons, but it’s great to be back and up for the challenge. During practice we acted according to plan – both riders went through their program without any serious problems.
We’ve put new items on Lando’s car and gathered a lot of information to help us optimize updates. Many thanks to the staff on the base, who were able to prepare novelties for this weekend.
We need to work on increasing the speed. In the evening, the team will analyze the information gathered and try to find solutions that will allow them to perform as well as possible in qualifying and in the race.
