One of the features of the Singapore circuit is a rather narrow pit lane, which the drivers don’t like. Carlos Sainz and Sergio Perez are calling for the pit lane to be widened at many circuits, not just in Singapore, because they fear possible injury to the mechanics.
“I believe it is not the mechanics or the teams that have to change the pit stop procedure,” said Carlos Sainz. – The FIA and Formula 1 must find a solution for such pit lanes.
Sooner or later someone will get injured in such a narrow pit lane, because when the safety car comes onto the track, everyone goes to the pits at the same time, as was the case last year in Budapest or in Zandvoort when the safety car caused chaos. A solution must be found because I think we are endangering our health.
Homologated circuits must have a wider and longer pit lane to allow space between the cars. I know it’s technically not that easy to do, but at Zandvoort the situation was scary and it could happen again.”
Sergio Pérez supports Carlos Sainz in this matter: “Hopefully we can find a solution, because at the moment there is simply not enough space on some tracks. If something goes wrong for one of the teams during the pit stop, the other team’s driver may simply not have enough room to avoid an incident.
