Mostly cloudy. To rain. Air +26…25С, route +28С
Saturday morning it rained in Singapore, weakening and intensifying again. Women’s W Series qualifying was interrupted twice by red flags and ended ahead of schedule, and the rain picked up at the start of third Formula 1 practice.
Bernd Maylander drove a circle behind the wheel of a safety car, assessed the track condition, the countdown to the end of the session started, but the red light stayed on at the exit of the pitlane – there was too much water, in many areas the drainage system could not cope with.
Then the rain subsided, the street track employees armed themselves with special brushes that dispersed the water, the mechanics in the pits dried the pit lane. Half an hour after the start of the session, race management found the conditions suitable – and Pierre Gasly took the track first on wet tires.
The water on the track became less and less, the condition of the track improved, so ten minutes later Verstappen was the first to start on intermediate tires.
The track remained slippery, but there were no incidents. Latifi, Albon, Gasley and Russell were in the safety bags, Tsunoda hit the barrier – no impact on the car.
Mick Schumacher had not secured his right rear wheel at the pit stop. Mick immediately stopped, he was rolled back and everything was fixed, but the stewards took note of the incident.
Charles Leclerc took the lead with a lap time of 1:57.782.
