Carlos Sainz qualified fourth in Singapore, less than two tenths behind teammate and pole holder Charles Leclerc. The Spanish Ferrari driver expects to climb the podium on Sunday.
His teammate Charles Leclerc took pole position and wants to win the race.
Charles Leclerc (1st): “It’s great to get ninth pole of the season, but we need to win more races! It’s good that I start first, but tomorrow I have to finish the job.
In general I am satisfied, because Friday turned out to be quite difficult. Due to technical problems I only did a few laps, but today I am satisfied. I don’t want to bet tomorrow just on the fact that it’s hard to overtake on this track. I hope we can demonstrate the high speed we had all weekend.
Yes, the fact that it is difficult to overtake in Singapore will help me, but I am preparing for a difficult race. It may rain tomorrow, but the asphalt dries quickly, so it could be an exciting race.”
Carlos Sainz (4th): “If you are only one and a half tenths of a second behind pole time and you are fourth, you feel no joy, because you are only one and a half tenths away! However, that’s the density of the results. I know exactly where I could play this time, so I will analyze everything to understand what could have been done better.
The session turned out to be very difficult, also because of the traffic. It was not easy to keep the tires at operating temperature – from this point of view we had the most difficult qualifying of the season.
I think I did well, so it’s a shame I was only one and a half tenths short. The aim of the race is to get on the podium or win.”
