Max Verstappen ran out of fuel for the last lap

Max Verstappen was forced to interrupt the decisive lap in the qualifying final of the Singapore Grand Prix and return to the pits due to fuel shortage. As a result, the Red Bull Racing pilot will start Sunday’s race in eighth – the worst qualifying result of the season.

Max’s teammate Sergio Perez set the second fastest time in qualifying and lost 0.022 seconds to the pole holder.

Sergio Perez (2nd): “Yesterday I had the worst Friday of the season – I didn’t do enough laps due to the engine problems. However, we did a good job and were able to pay for ourselves. The team made the right decisions and together we achieved an excellent result.

In the race I will try to do everything in my power. The start will be very important, but we must not forget that we have a long race ahead of us.”

Max Verstappen (8th): “I was fast on the penultimate lap, but they told me to stop. Okay, no problem, I’ve stopped trying. However, on the last lap the team told me to go back to the pits – that’s when I realized what had happened.

The car ran out of fuel. It’s incredibly frustrating – it shouldn’t be. Lack of fuel or the fact that we are not going to do six laps should be kept in mind during the session. The team should have realized earlier that there was not enough fuel. I am quite dissatisfied at the moment.

Of course every result is a result of teamwork. It doesn’t matter if I’m wrong or if the team is unacceptable. Of course, we learn from mistakes every time, but frankly, it’s very sad that this happens. It shouldn’t be.

Match chances? The track is somewhat reminiscent of Monaco – it is very difficult to overtake here. Maybe we’ll come up with a strategy while I haven’t thought about tomorrow yet. When I get behind the wheel I always get the most out of the car, but now I’m really upset about what happened in qualifying.
