Aston Martin’s problems started before the start and only one British team car was able to reach the finish of the Miami Grand Prix. Sebastian Vettel retired after the crash, although he was in contention for the points, and Lance Stroll finished the race in 11th place.
Lance Walk (11th): “A gloomy day overall. Unfortunately we had to start from the pit lane, but as soon as the race started we were able to show a more or less normal pace.
Overtaking from the track was very difficult, but we made the right decisions, made a pit stop when the safety car came on track, and this put us in a situation where we had a chance to finish in the top ten. I think we had a chance to fight for the points, but this was prevented by a bad restart and contact with Kevin Magnussen’s car.
Sebastian Vettel (unfinished): “It’s a shame that the weekend ended like this, we should have done better. Before the race we had a problem with the fuel temperature, so we had to start from the pitlane.
I was in traffic for most of the race, it was very difficult to overtake and DRS was not effective enough. When the safety car came on track we got into the top ten, but then there was contact between my car and Mick Schumacher’s Haas and we both lost the chance to score points.
Mike Krak, team leader: “A day of continuous frustration. It all started with a fuel temperature problem that prevented our cars from leaving the garage in time, leaving both drivers out of the pit lane.
They started the race on hard tires, made good progress and we were able to make pit stops and switch to medium tires when the safety car came out after Lando Norris crashed on lap 41.
Then Sebastian was 11th on a new set of Medium tyres, behind Esteban Ocon, who had a worn set of soft tyres, and Mick Schumacher on fairly old Hard tyres. Sebastian used the advantage of the new tires to stay ahead of both, before finishing ninth with a chance to earn points.
Unfortunately for Sebastian the race ended through no fault of his own after a collision with Schumacher, who acted too aggressively. Then, on the final leg of the race, Lance collided with Kevin Magnussen, who was later fined for causing an accident. As a result, Lance finished 11th.
Overall, the Miami Grand Prix was not the best for us, but this race was a great addition to the championship calendar and we hope it has given the fans pleasure.
