Russell starts from pit lane due to power source replacement

A few hours before the start of the Singapore Grand Prix, it was announced that the power plant on George Russell’s Mercedes has been replaced, causing it to start from the pit lane.

According to a notice signed by FIA technical delegate Joe Bauer, car 63 has a new combustion engine, turbine, both engine generators (MGU-H and MGU-K), energy storage, control electronics and exhaust system.

At the same time, only the exhaust system belongs to the eight such elements of the power plants assigned to the racer for the season, and their other components already exceed this limit, which does not comply with the sports regulations, and a fine is due .

But it is emphasized separately that all the power plant components on Russell’s car were replaced without the approval of the FIA’s technical delegate, therefore Article 40.3 of the Sporting Regulations has been violated. Therefore, car number 63 has to start from the pitlane.
