Valtteri Bottas: The car is more efficient on a dry track

The Singapore race for Alfa Romeo ended unsuccessfully – Valtteri Bottas finished 11th earning no points, and his teammate Guanyu Zhou retired after colliding with Nicholas Latifi. The team remained sixth in the Constructors’ Championship.

Frederic Vasseur, Team Principal: “Despite the good pace on Friday, it was a challenging weekend. Yesterday’s wet qualifying affected our chances in the race – we knew it would be difficult to recoup if we started from 14th and 15th position.

The race also proved difficult on the drying asphalt. Zhou couldn’t do anything to avoid the collision, although he had shown a good pace before that.

Valtteri made the most of the race and only the fast Max Verstappen stopped him from scoring points. We tried to give him a chance to compete by putting on soft tires but it wasn’t enough to finish in the top ten.

Now we go to Suzuka. We have a good pace on a dry track and we will bring some new products that should help improve. The team continues to fight for sixth place in the Constructors’ Championship.”

Valtteri Bottas (11th): “Considering the starting positions, we did everything we could. Of course it’s always a shame when you finish in one position from the points, but at least I avoided mistakes and made it to the finish.

In the last laps the Soft tires started to lose speed so I couldn’t get close to Gasly, but I think it was the right decision to switch to this composition. I don’t think the result would be higher on other tires.

This weekend we had some positive moments – on Friday we showed a fast pace and we will bring some new products to Japan. Our car is more efficient on a dry track, so let’s hope the weather in Japan is on our side.”

Guanyu Zhou (retirement): “It’s a shame to end the race with a collision, but I couldn’t do anything. I rode side by side with Latifi into the fourth corner, after which he left no place and sent me into the wall. The suspension was serious damaged and he was fined which didn’t change anything for me, not how I wanted to finish the race, given the good pace.

We have to put this race behind us in the past and focus on the next stage in Suzuka. There is a new opportunity ahead of us and I am looking forward to racing at this track.”
