Fernando Alonso We lost important points

The Singapore race was the first of the season in which both Alpine drivers failed to finish – Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon stopped due to a power plant failure. The team dropped to fifth in the Constructors’ Championship, ahead of McLaren.

Fernando Alonso (retirement): “It’s a shame I retired at the start of the race – because of this we lost important points in the championship. On the positive side, we can be proud of our speed this weekend. Both on Saturday and today we competed for fifth or sixth place.

The race proved difficult in difficult conditions – it was difficult to see the drying track from the cockpit. Another race is scheduled for next weekend, so we can jump straight into the Japanese Grand Prix and try to get points again.”

Esteban Ocon (retirement): “A disappointing day for the team. I had to end the race early due to problems with the power plant. The team is now investigating the cause of the incident. It is of course very disappointing that we are leaving Singapore with a double retirement, but the fact that the car was fast all weekend and we showed good pace can be attributed to the positive results.

Next week we are waiting for the race in Suzuka – my favorite track on the calendar. We will leave the problems of this stage behind us and come back stronger in Japan.”

Otmar Safnauer, team leader: “Unfortunately, the Singapore Grand Prix ended for us with a double retirement. Shame as we were competitive all weekend. Apparently both cars had an identical gearbox problem, the cause of which has yet to be determined. This is very important to find out in order to take preventive measures and avoid recurrence.

This sometimes happens in racing. Now the team feels disappointed, but next week there will be a stage in Japan where we will have a chance to recoup. The team will do well – we are already looking forward to returning to Suzuka on a fantastic track.”
