Leo Turini: FIA continues to use outdated approaches

Leo Turini, with all his love for Ferrari, admits that Red Bull driver Sergio Perez took a well-deserved victory in Singapore, but the Italian journalist asks: how well have the FIA stewards acted?

First the necessary introduction. Sergio Perez took a well deserved win at the crazy Singapore circuit. However, there is no doubt that the Mexican committed two rule violations when he was behind the safety car.

The stewards had every opportunity to decide the penalty in real time, but they chose not to, and just three hours after the finish we heard their verdict, formulated in the spirit of Pontius Pilate.

In that they penalized the Red Bull Racing driver but only added five seconds to his result, and poor Charles Leclerc was content with second place, where he actually finished on the track.

Let me ask the FIA gentlemen a question: who are the judges?

I repeat: Formula 1’s popularity has returned to an incredibly high level, but the federation continues to lead the parade, using outdated approaches.

Most recently, at Monza, we witnessed an episode that upset all fans when the FIA decided the race would end behind the safety car. And now, as I write these rules, there are clashes in Formula 1 about possible violations of the financial rules.

But how is this possible, if in such a rich sport, loved by millions, management still cannot find out whether certain teams have allowed consumption to exceed the maximum level or not? But more than six months have passed since the investigation began…

However, all this should not detract from the results that Red Bull Racing shows on the track. They were faster than the Ferrari. It’s all I want to think about right now. After all, it is not normal if during the season, in which the riders in the red cars won 11 times on pole, they only took four victories.

That’s the biggest problem, and that’s what those who manage the Maranello team need to solve: how to turn the speed of Saturday’s qualifying into real results on Sunday.

Because we have to go back to one of those lessons from Michael Schumacher, the unforgettable hero of Ferrari. He always said: “If we did well in the tests, that’s great, but you should never forget that points are earned in the races on Sunday.”
