Singapore Grand Prix: Curious Stats

Some interesting statistical compilations of the results of the Singapore Grand Prix…

Qualification

Charles Leclerc won qualifying in Singapore with his ninth pole of the season – the last time Ferrari had so many poles in 2001, when Michael Schumacher took 11 poles. The Monegask now has 18 career poles, as do Kimi Raikkonen, René Arnoux and Mario Andretti.

Sergio Perez qualified second, with the best result since the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in June and for the fourth time this season ahead of teammate Max Verstappen.

Lewis Hamilton’s third place is his best qualifying result this season.

Carlos Sainz’s fourth place is the Spaniard’s best result in Singapore.

Max Verstappen’s eighth place is his second-worst result this year after his 10th place in Hungary.

Kevin Magnussen made it to the final qualifying session in Singapore for the first time since 2014, when he played for McLaren.

George Russell set the 11th fastest time in qualifying and missed the final for the third time this year.

For the third time in the last four Grands Prix, Valtteri Bottas dropped out in the early part of qualifying – after 148 stages in which he continued steadily.

By winning the Singapore Grand Prix, Sergio Perez took the second win of the season and the fourth in his career – the same number of wins were Dan Gurney, Bruce McLaren and Eddie Irvine.

Perez became the first since Sebastian Vettel in 2011 to win street races in Monaco and Singapore in the same season.

Pérez became the 58th driver in Formula 1 history to lead a race from start to finish. 57th was Charles Leclerc, who led from start to finish in Australia at the start of the season.

Charles Leclerc finished second, the 21st podium in his career – and third in a row, but each time he finished behind a Red Bull Racing driver in those three Grands Prix. For the eighth time in his career and fourth of the season, the Monegasque finished second in the race.

Carlos Sainz finished third – the first time since the Miami Grand Prix in May that both Ferrari drivers took the podium – then they also finished second and third.

The McLaren team repeated their best result of the season, taking 22 points – the same as in April at the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix. This result put McLaren in the Constructors’ Championship for Alpine and regained fourth place.

Daniel Ricciardo’s fifth place is his best result of the season and his first top five finish since Saudi Arabia 2021.

Lance Stroll finished sixth and had the best result of the season. Previously, in 2022, he only earned points for tenth place.

Max Verstappen finished seventh and broke a career-best streak of five wins in a row. To win the championship title in the next leg in Suzuka, he needs to lead Leclerc by eight points and Perez by six.

Lewis Hamilton finished ninth for the seventh time in 305 Grand Prix starts.

The Alpine team failed to earn points for the second race in a row and lost fourth place in the Constructors’ Championship to McLaren.
