Carlos Sainz finished third in Miami, behind Max Verstappen and teammate Charles Leclerc. After the race, Carlos said he was unable to attack as much as possible at certain points in the distance due to pain in his neck after an accident in Friday practice.
Carlos Sainz: “I got behind the wheel again on Friday after a serious accident, so I didn’t feel 100% in the race. Maybe I was also uncomfortable because I actually missed the previous two races, and my neck felt it.
The combination of these two factors resulted in me not being able to attack 100% at one point in the race. I had to pay a high price. I can’t say the podium was a comfort, but this result was necessary.
I had to drive the whole distance to get my body in shape. In addition, it was important to evaluate the behavior of the car on worn tires and with a full tank. During the race I made several mistakes simply because I was trying to find the limit of what was possible for myself and the car. But as I said, the most important thing is that I rode the whole distance, fought with rivals and was fast enough at some points in the race.
During the fight with Sergio I assessed how to use the battery, how to charge the tires. All this knowledge will help me in the future.”
