We spoke about the claims made by the Royal Revenue and Customs Service of Great Britain to Bernie Ecclestone. The former Formula 1 executive has been accused of deliberately failing to declare his foreign assets and paying taxes on more than £400million.
In August, a brief meeting was held at the Westminster World Court in London, where Ecclestone denied all charges against him during a 10-minute speech. Magistrate Paul Goldspring felt that the powers of the Westminster Court were insufficient to hear this case and transferred it to Southwark Crown Court.
On Tuesday, October 4, another meeting took place, which Bernie attended. Due to hearing problems in 91-year-old Ecclestone, the judge allowed him to be in the room behind his lawyers, and not in the dock. During a brief hearing, Bernie rose from his chair to confirm his name.
Ecclestone was not formally offered a plea. Instead, Judge Deborah Taylor set a trial date for October 9 next year. After the hearing, Bernie left the courthouse.
