The last race in Singapore was the worst of the season for Mercedes – the team only scored two points. Chief Toto Wolff is gearing up for a tough Japanese Grand Prix weekend but still expects his drivers to see Suzuka in more familiar positions.
Toto Wolff: “Sunday in Singapore turned out to be very difficult, but there were also positive moments – we saw glimpses of the car’s speed and potential. However, we were unable to convert them into earned points, even though the car was competitive on an empty track.
We have a lot to discuss and analyze in the coming days. Fortunately, the team can immediately move on to the next race and prepare for a new challenge.
Our aim is to regain the momentum we had before Singapore and take advantage of the strengths we have in the car. The team gets five more chances to earn points to finish the season strong.
In Suzuka we may struggle – it will not be easy to repeat the qualifying form shown in Singapore, but I hope we will compensate for this with a better result on Sunday.
Formula 1 hasn’t been to Japan since 2019, so the team is delighted to be back. Suzuka is a special track, one of the most difficult for riders and equipment. We also missed the great Japanese fans.”
