Already this Sunday, Max Verstappen can guarantee the title of world champion in 2022. At a press conference in Suzuka, the Red Bull Racing driver told what needs to be done to win the championship.
Max Verstappen: “I’m happy to be back in Japan. The event has been missing from the season’s calendar for a while, although Suzuka has a great track with incredible fans in the stands – true fans of Formula 1. We are all happy to be here, and thanks to our partnership with Honda, the race is special for U.S. The team is looking forward to a successful weekend.
If I guarantee that I will win the championship in Japan, that will make the title special because of our relationship with Honda. Too bad we didn’t come to this track last year when we competed for the title. To win, you have to have a perfect weekend – there’s no doubt about that.
Japanese fans love Formula 1 in a good way. They come to the track in unique costumes – I saw people wearing caps with a rear wing, for example. This shows how popular motorsport in general is in Japan. I turned on the TV in a hotel in Tokyo and the first thing I saw was the race broadcast. There’s a great motorsport culture here, so we all love coming to Japan.”
