Lotterer: When Horner talks about Formula E, it’s a compliment

Christian Horner recently criticized the electric Formula E, saying it is not very interesting for the fans, also because electric race cars are too quiet.

“Electric racing doesn’t get people excited, it doesn’t work. There is no noise, no passion,” said the head of Red Bull Racing, who took part in the OMR podcast. “There is also no right atmosphere there and we see car manufacturers already leaving this championship.”

Porsche works team driver Andre Lotterer, who has been racing in Formula E for several years, disagrees: “When I entered this championship, I quickly realized how difficult it is, and the drivers here have to do very difficult tasks. This championship has a future, as automakers don’t have many alternative options to promote the idea of electric transportation.

And the fact that Horner spoke about Formula E should generally be taken as a compliment. This means that our championship indirectly still concerns him. But these are two different worlds that cannot be compared.

If this project had failed, Formula E would not exist at all. At the very beginning, the championship had difficulties, but the electric series progressed at a very fast pace. We know what speeds electric cars are capable of, and if our series fits into the world of motorsport, that’s great.

In both F1 and Formula E there are cool, very talented racers and in our series all real professionals, because nobody pays for a place in the team, everyone deserves it because of their talent. And without a sponsor budget you can’t get into Formula 1.”

Next season, the EV World Championship moves to third-generation cars, and seven automakers have already confirmed their participation: DS Automobiles, Jaguar, Porsche, Nissan, Mahindra, Nio 333 and Maserati have recently been added to the list.
