IndyCar drivers Pato O’Ward and Alex Palou continue to test with McLaren, this time in last year’s car at the Red Bull Ring in Austria.
The team won’t give any details, the short message just says that both will return to the MCL35M in the second half of the week as part of the test program of cars released in previous years. They already tested this car in September during the same private tests in Barcelona.
According to the Spanish press, it is possible that O’Ward will participate in Friday practice before the Mexican Grand Prix, and Palou will have such an opportunity during the race weekend in Abu Dhabi. This will allow McLaren to meet the requirement of the rules, which require that young drivers be invited twice a season and give them the opportunity to practice behind the wheel of current Formula 1 cars.
In addition, both IndyCar drivers can be invited to the Youth Tests, which will take place in Abu Dhabi after the last race of the season.
There’s no doubt that Alex and Pato are looking forward to continuing to work on the tests.
“Every time I get behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car, a big smile appears on my face,” said the Mexican after testing in Barcelona. – This is an incredible technique, a real work of art, and I am very grateful to Zach Brown and Andreas Seidl for the opportunities they give me.
The most important thing in this case is to spend as much time as possible behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car so that I can adapt better to it, to the steering, to the rubber, to find out how everything works. It’s great, I’m having a lot of fun!”
