In the previous two races, in Monza and Singapore, Fernando Alonso did not finish due to technical problems with the car. In Japan, the Alpine driver wants to return to the top ten and earn points.
Q: How do you rate the last race weekend at the Marina Bay track?
Fernando Alonso: We deserved a good result in Singapore after a good weekend. I had confidence in the car from the first practice and we coped well with the changeable weather. It was very difficult because of the heat and humidity, but we were highly qualified. However, due to technical problems I had to leave – until then I was happy with the weekend.
We missed McLaren up front in the battle for fourth place in the Constructors’ Championship. Now we have to bounce back and earn a lot of points in Suzuka this weekend.
Q: Why do you like the Japanese song?
Fernando Alonso: Suzuka is a real test for drivers in Formula 1. This is a historic track and one of the most interesting to drive. After the city circuit, we are waiting for a classic race track with difficult curves.
The weather can be changeable so we don’t know what to expect. I love the Japanese culture and the local fans create a unique atmosphere. There is no doubt that this is one of my favorite stages of the season.
Question You have spent 15 races in Suzuka. Can you name the most memorable episode?
Fernando Alonso: I have many pleasant memories of this song. One is overtaking Michael Schumacher in turn 130R. A good and not the easiest maneuver, given the speed of passing this bend.
I won the race in 2006 – that result improved my chances in the individual standings for the final round in Brazil. I have fond memories of this song and the fans are just amazing.
