The head of McLaren Racing, Zack Brown, believes that a financial violation, if proven, should be punished no less severely than a technical violation.
Zach Brown: “The FIA was supposed to hand out certificates on Wednesday and now everything has been postponed to Monday. So for some reason they are not ready for it. Rumor has it that one or two teams have broken the rules. I don’t know if this is true, but if it is, the sanctions should be appropriate.
Cost limits are crucial, we have to make sure that the rules are followed and if someone breaks them use the appropriate penalties – not only financially, but also sportingly and technically.
They are heavily fined for violations of sporting or technical regulations, and so should financial regulations. Spending more than the rules allow gives the team an unfair advantage and must be dealt with quickly and hard.”
