Rain on Friday didn’t stop Yuki Tsunode from enjoying his first F1 experience at home…
Yuki Tsunoda: “It was a great experience. The dream came true! When I left the pits for the first time in the first practice, I was overwhelmed with emotions, especially in the second corner, which I saw last time, because as a fan I came to Suzuka. That was incredible. I haven’t driven this track since my Formula 4 days, so even in today’s rain I did my fastest lap so far on Suzuka.
The conditions were not very good, at times the asphalt dried up quickly and then the rain got heavier – we had to adapt. We gathered information and gradually increased the speed when the weather allowed.
It looks like it will be sunny tomorrow, so for qualifying we only have morning practice in such conditions. However, everyone is on an equal footing, let’s see what happens in the end.”
Pierre Gasly (19th): “Today everything went well, although I only attacked for three laps. Friday wasn’t the busiest, but I’m looking forward to tomorrow. We did everything we planned, we only had one set of intermediate tires all day, but tomorrow the forecast promises good weather and Sunday could be dry, so training on Saturday is of particular importance. I am convinced that we will be competitive in all circumstances.”
