Mick Schumacher crashed the car after the first free practice at the Japanese Grand Prix. The damage was so severe that the rider required a chassis replacement, causing him to miss the second practice.
In the team’s press release at the end of the day, Haas boss Gunther Steiner was rather coy about Mick’s mistake, but in speaking to reporters, Gunther was more eloquent.
Günther Steiner: “He saw the spray, the previous laps he saw the water in that corner. I won’t tell you how hard it is to fly in such conditions, but nobody said the racer has an easy track.
In the end, Mick ruined everything for himself. Again, the track was wet, but he knew it very well. The condition of the asphalt was no surprise.”
When asked if he had spoken to Schumacher after the accident, Steiner replied: “No. Sometimes silence says more than words. I didn’t talk to him about what happened.”
When Steiner was asked about the progress of negotiations with Mick for a contract for next year, Gunther replied: “I don’t want to comment on that. In the current situation, it is completely inappropriate to discuss this topic.”
